Deep South Entertainment is working to develop a new series in Dix Park

RALEIGH, NC (March 3, 2017) –  Deep South Entertainment announces the development of a new music series this summer slated at Dorothea Dix Park.  The new series, which is scheduled to be held on Saturdays, promises to combine great local music, family fun, food trucks, local beers, and will remain FREE to the public.  Details will be forthcoming.

In a statement from Dave Rose,  President of Deep South Entertainment.

Evolving with the growth of downtown Raleigh, Deep South is pleased to announce we are in the development stages of a music-based series at Dorothea Dix Park.  We will not however be continuing the Thursday night Oak City 7 and the Pickin’ In The Plaza series which were held in City Plaza.

Although Oak City 7 and Pickin’ In the Plaza were well received, we believe the entertainment demands of downtown have progressed and the needs for the community are different than they were when we started.  Throughout the years, the series did not utilize any taxpayer money, which we are very proud of, and is a testament to the incredible dedication of the sponsors and music fans who supported these events.

Deep South originally created a series of free downtown concerts in 2005 called Downtown Live, held in Moore Square Park.  It was a precursor to major residential developments, the re-opening of Fayetteville Street, the development of the new Convention Center, and Red Hat Amphitheater.

Once our downtown became more vibrant, we created the Oak City 7 series in 2012 to cater to our existing and diverse community.  Soon afterward we added a sister series, Pickin’ In the Plaza, which highlighted our city’s love for bluegrass and traditional music.

Now, as we enter a new chapter of our maturing downtown, we agree it’s time to change our focus on the entertainment that surrounds it.  Deep South plans to grow and adapt to the ever changing landscape with the events it provides for the City.

It is an honor to serve this eclectic community in Raleigh and we look forward to continuing this service with some new and exciting events.  Mostly, we want to thank the community, music fans, bands, and sponsors who made Oak City 7 and Pickin’ In the Plaza a fun and creative part of the downtown Raleigh landscape.  We look forward to seeing you all this summer!
